SafeClass Shield is built for children's safety. This policy describes how we protect every child who uses or is monitored through our platform — covering data privacy, content standards, reporting obligations, and our zero-tolerance approach to child harm.

1. Scope and Purpose

This Children Protection Policy applies to all users of SafeClass Shield, including parents, school administrators, students, and third-party partners. Its purpose is to:

  • Establish clear standards for the protection of children's personal data
  • Define prohibited uses of the platform that could harm children
  • Specify reporting obligations when harmful content is detected
  • Describe our AI content filtering approach and its safeguards
  • Outline staff and contractor training requirements
  • Ensure compliance with COPPA, FERPA, CIPA, and applicable state laws

2. Minimum Age and Consent

SafeClass Shield does not allow children under 13 to create independent accounts. All child profiles are created and managed by a verified parent or authorized school administrator.

Age verification requirements:

  • Parents must be 18+ to create a parent account
  • School administrators must be verified employees of a recognized educational institution
  • Verifiable parental consent is obtained before any child data is collected or processed
  • Children 13–17 may access limited student-facing features with active parental supervision
  • No child under 13 may communicate with other users through any platform feature

3. Data Protection for Children

We apply the highest level of data protection to all child data:

  • Child data is never sold, licensed, or shared with third parties for commercial purposes
  • No behavioral advertising is directed at children — ever
  • Child activity data is not used to build commercial profiles
  • Child data is retained for a maximum of 12 months of account inactivity, then purged
  • All child data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3)
  • Access to child data is restricted to the parent, verified school admins, and SafeClass Shield engineers under strict access controls
  • We do not collect the content of private messages, photos, or personal files

4. Content Filtering Standards

SafeClass Shield operates content filtering at STRICT level by default for all child accounts. The following categories are blocked:

Adult & Explicit Content
Zero tolerance — immediate block
Violence & Gore
Blocked at all filter levels
Self-Harm Content
Blocked + parent alert triggered
Cyberbullying
AI detection + admin notification
Gambling

Hate Speech
Zero tolerance — blocked and logged
Radicalization

Child Sexual Abuse Material
ZERO TOLERANCE — reported to NCMEC
CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material): Any detection or report of CSAM is immediately reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline and relevant law enforcement. No exceptions. Account is immediately suspended pending investigation.

5. Mandatory Reporting Obligations

SafeClass Shield and its employees are mandated reporters in jurisdictions where required by law. We will report to appropriate authorities when:

  • Content suggesting imminent risk of self-harm or suicide is detected
  • Evidence of child abuse or exploitation is identified
  • CSAM is detected (immediate report to NCMEC CyberTipline)
  • Content indicating a credible threat of violence against others is found
  • A child appears to be in contact with a predatory adult

Reporting channels:

  • NCMEC CyberTipline: cybertipline.org or 1-800-843-5678
  • Local law enforcement: 911 for imminent threats
  • FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center: ic3.gov
  • SafeClass Shield Safety Team: safety@safeclassshield.com

6. AI Safety Oversight

Our AI content classification system includes specific child-safety protections:

  • Self-harm and suicide-related content always triggers immediate human review — no automated action alone
  • Cyberbullying detection models are retrained quarterly with diverse datasets
  • AI confidence thresholds for child-safety categories are set 15% higher than standard categories
  • All child-safety AI decisions are logged and reviewed by our Safety Team monthly
  • Parents receive real-time alerts for any self-harm, violence, or predator-contact detections
  • No child behavioral data is used to train commercial AI models

7. Staff and Contractor Requirements

  • All SafeClass Shield employees and contractors undergo background checks before hire
  • Staff with access to child data complete COPPA/FERPA training annually
  • A designated Child Safety Officer (CSO) is responsible for policy enforcement
  • Any employee who becomes aware of a policy violation must report it within 2 hours
  • Contractors sign a Child Data Protection addendum as part of their service agreement
  • Access to production systems containing child data is reviewed and audited quarterly

8. Parental Rights and Controls

Parents retain full control over their children's data and monitoring settings:

  • Review all monitoring data collected about their child at any time
  • Download a complete export of their child's data
  • Request immediate deletion of all child data (account + backups within 30 days)
  • Disable any specific monitoring feature without affecting other features
  • Whitelist or blacklist any domain or application
  • Receive real-time alerts for any safety event
  • Revoke school admin access to their child's data at any time
